Fun fact:
The Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States, completed by the Spanish in 1695 to protect the city, in, what was then, Spanish Florida. The star-shaped fort was built of *coquina*, a sedimentary rock, similar to limestone, formed by ancient shells that have bonded together.
