Vero, the ad-free social network that does not mine user data, today announced a collaboration with acclaimed designer Ozwald Boateng OBE who is making his New York return.

On Sunday May 5, 2019 Ozwald Boateng will stage an immersive fashion experience at Harlem’s Apollo Theater – the historic stage graced by icons such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sammy Davis Jr., James Brown, Gladys Knight and countless others.

2019 is the one hundredth anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance and the event will help celebrate the history and culture of the time, bringing together a generation of people who embody the very spirit and essence of Harlem.

A celebration of culture, diversity, music, history and fashion, the event will feature a musical performance from celebrated local collective The Harlem Orchestra as models, including special guests, take to the runway in the latest Ozwald Boateng collection.

The idea of ‘what is real’ and the importance of being truly authentic have played a pivotal role in Boateng’s design process and will be explored in the immersive show which will be livestreamed on Vero.

“Throughout my career I have focused on how design can facilitate self-expression and enhance our inner selves. Now that we live more of our lives online it’s more important than ever for us all to have better tools to express who we are as multidimensional people and to connect meaningfully with each other. That is why I partnered with Vero because I believe they provide the tools,” said Ozwald Boateng OBE.

“We created Vero because we felt there was a need for a social network which prioritized genuine connection and authentic self-expression over fake engagement and interaction. When we heard Ozwald’s vision, we knew right away we had to support it and we are excited to be part of celebrations marking the Harlem Renaissance,” said Ayman Hariri, co-founder and CEO of Vero.
