--Nov 2 2023“Each of my works acts as an echo between two distinct callings”.
Meet the Artist: @meg_allan_art
“The first call being that of the ‘Seen (external)’, which speaks of and is bound to physical existence.
The second call is from the ‘Unseen (internal)’, which is both a record of the collective unconscious and/or the diffusion of sentience through deep consideration of the Self.
Quite often, the images coexist within both callings. A portrait or still life may be speaking of physical existence but will contain elements of the soul and of memory.
My work is representational and can be symbolic, steeped in narrative, myth, prose, or spirituality. The act of building an image is a kind of searching implement, resonating between the Seen and the Unseen, always with the aim to obtain a greater understanding of both. To stir thought and question perception of reality, comforting and healing from within.
An open conversation with the Zeitgeist.
I mainly work in oil, graphite, and charcoal and prefer to work in a layered, detailed manner. I’m a classical painting enthusiast with strong influences from William-Adolphe Bouguereau, John William Waterhouse, and Rembrandt van Rijn.
My work is held in collections in Australia and internationally.”
