A different version tells of a deva who, after mastering his skills, wished to trade with merchants. Denied due to inexperience, he secretly followed them and built his own successful business. He initially traded cattle, later expanding to commodities.
However, his vanity led him to turn kkad into small grains and kalkkad into white stones. When paying taxes at Meethal’s house, he flaunted his wealth by using white rice. On his way back, a storm struck at night, extinguishing his torch. Losing his way, he fell into the Perumpuzha River and drowned.
The next day, a fisherman found his body in his net, after which strange signs appeared in his home. Astrologers declared him a deity meant to protect the clan. Some believe he became the boatmen’s guardian god, receiving offerings of rice cakes, meat, and fish, and was later honoured in the form of a kola.
