Community Guidelines Update
By Tom Hodgson
This week we have introduced some updates to VERO’s Community Guidelines.
Listening to — and taking in — feedback from VERO Members about how we can serve them better is a big part of what we do and what we’re about. Whether it’s on Town Halls, comments in-app or support tickets, suggestions and comments help inform product thinking, result in policy improvements and many have made their way into the app experience itself.
Hearing from Members about features they love or would like to see is always instructional, but so is fielding questions about how and why we do certain things — particularly in the overlapping areas of policy and platform culture and hearing from people when they think we’ve got things wrong, or not done things as well as we might have.
Last November we introduced some changes to our Community Guidelines regarding the acceptability of certain types of mature content on VERO.
As a global platform, we have to balance multiple (and sometimes thorny) considerations as we continue to grow VERO while maintaining the healthy community we have — a community made up of millions of people of different ages and cultures from around the world. The ingredients in this balancing act (which is not unique to us) include creative expression, adherence to rules and policies laid down by app stores, taking action against harm and platform exploitation, and — crucially — taking care of our fantastic moderation team.
The changes we introduced in November prompted some feedback from our creator community many of whom wanted to better understand why we felt this change was necessary. Following this, we decided to reach out to members of our community to hear concerns and feedback and, as a result, we have amended our Community Guidelines to provide more guidance — and hopefully more clarity — to creators who wish to incorporate mature content in their VERO posts.
We hope the updated guidelines provide sufficient scope for the artistic depiction of the human form, whilst still ensuring VERO remains a safe, positive space for all.
Most platforms’ Community Guidelines are always going to be ‘living documents’ — as we grow and learn through experience — and ours is no different.
A big thank you to everyone who takes the time to provide feedback and thoughts on our policies and guidelines — as well as other areas of our platform and service — we really appreciate it. Whilst it’s not possible for it all to get acted on, it does all get read.
If you’re a VERO Member now or are considering it, please do take a moment to read our updated Community Guidelines and to give us feedback on any subject, it’s [email protected]
Until next time,
Tom
