Daisy Nefatari is an analog photographer based in Devon, England. Her work features a distinctive approach to multiple exposure photography on 35mm film, creating surreal, dreamlike scenes within a single frame.
The idea for the project In Bloom started two and a half years ago. At that time, Daisy was struggling with depression while also coping with her dad's terminal illness. In the midst of this emotional turmoil, she discovered an old Olympus OM-10 camera that her grandfather had gifted her when she was a child. The camera was still in perfect working order, and this accidental find sparked a new hobby.
Initially, Daisy started taking the camera out as a reason to leave the house and distract herself from grief. It gave Daisy the courage to think about something other than the difficult situation her family were facing. She soon realised that she wanted to document this period of her life and emotions in a visual, non-written diary. When she shared this idea with her dad, he encouraged her to continue doing what made her happy, believing it would lead to a fulfilled life.
Though she hoped to finish the project before her dad passed away on 13th September 2022, Daisy didn’t manage to complete it in time. Initially, this felt like a personal failure, but she eventually recognised that the ongoing process of documenting her journey was a crucial part of her healing. Through photography, she continued to learn about herself, embracing imperfections and taking it all in stride with the continuous evolution of time, self, and style.
This project taught her to accept where she is, understand that things don’t always go as planned for a reason, and find beauty in the flaws. Now, after a long and humbling journey, she feels ready to share In Bloom with the world, hoping it resonates with others and brings them something meaningful.
'In Bloom' invites the viewer not only into a truly personal exhibition but a tribute and showcase where you can see and feel the essence of Daisy’s personality and influences. If that wasn’t enough we were also treated to a show of her incredible ability and passion to layer multiple analog exposures, with what feels like superhuman precision and intention. It’s hard not to admire the skill with which she has worked hard on to produce and refine the secret sauce which nails this process, making it her own and unique.
